Talk About Bad Timing

There’s no rhyme or reason to this post. I just need to write it to test the new subscription service on my website.  “Subscribe to the blog if you want to follow us on the trip”, we told family and friends.  Only it turns out the sign up feature wasn’t working.  People were subscribing to a black hole.  Talk about bad timing.  The last thing I want to do before the trip is spend days learning about and configuring new services for the blog.  But it’s done.  Here we go.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

If you signed up and didn’t get an email about this post, you’re probably in the “black hole” group.  Check your spam folder and if it’s not there sign up again.

In the meantime, this is what the kitchen in our trailer looks like.  In the far corner are Costco (jumbo) sized containers of salt and pepper, the cause of our first major mishap.  There’s not a lot of storage in a 26 foot trailer, even less so in an older model like ours.  So I store my regular sized spice jars in a pan in the oven.  No problem going up to Big Bear via the route with all the hairpin turns.  But then I had this brilliant idea to add the salt and pepper on the way back.  As you can imagine, that substantially changed the weight of the items stored in the oven.  It was enough to push open the door.  The pan and its contents flew out.  The door shut.  And the spice containers slid around the trailer floor for who knows how long.  It would’ve been better had the lids been screwed on tightly.  But such is life.  Cinnamon and Cayenne Pepper  coated the trailer floor.  Spice jars and lids were strewn about, under the slide out and in the far corners of the trailer.

Lesson learned.  Secure oven door with bungee cord (or store the Costco containers elsewhere).  Oh, and secure all lids.

As departure draws near I think about what I’m looking forward to most.  The simple life.  This means something different to everyone, I know.  You’ll probably laugh, or better yet be horrified, when I tell you about some of the simplifications.  Camping gives me permission to live a life without make-up and hairstyling.  The blow dryer and cosmetics are staying home.  I don’t think the Moose standing in the middle of the road is going to care.

I’m also thrilled to be a part of Mark’s dream – to experience this adventure with him.

The flip side?  What am I going to miss most?  Without a doubt family, friends, and my cat.  But also ample space to do my floor exercises and my king sized bed.  Mark’s looking forward to the adventure, but is really going to miss his recliner.

The countdown begins!  Mark is now a member of the “Every Day is Saturday” club and in a few days we’ll be on our way.

Might have to try the picnic table. It’s flat and just a little bigger than a yoga mat 🤣

Ah….you remind me of one more consideration in choosing a type of leisure vehicle to travel with. In an RV you have a much better chance of knowing quickly what needs addressing. With a towed vehicle the surprise is waiting for you when you hit camp. I’ll shut up now.

I completely understand the hair and makeup thing, but in my ideal world, “no bra” would need to be added to the mix.
Your grand adventure will be amazing, and I’m so happy you’ll be sharing with us along the way.
As a way to feel slightly less lonely, I request that you think of me each time you use that fabulous blue kettle. I love it!

I have to tell you I was giggling while reading this and trying to drink my coffee. Those lil mishaps that we learn from and then laugh about later do occur for sure. THe crystal ball says there could be more lil adventures in the future… lol just kidding . Been there and done that on our boat… so I get it. 🙂 Welcome to “The Club “ and hooray for the simple life….

Well you can giggle some more because I spelled the “from” name (the name of my blog!) wrong in the email that went out last night! 🤣
