On Being Ladylike

8/2:  Some things get thrown out the window as you get older.  Being ladylike all the time is one of them.

The air is unusually thick with moisture and I feel like I’ve stepped out of the shower when all I’ve done is chores.  The air conditioner just went on and the floor vents are calling me; they’re my relief in times like this and what I’m most grateful for today.  I confess I stand over them often in the summer.  I used to pretend I was Marilyn Monroe, beautiful skirt floating up around her on the breeze from the grate (in this case a vent), but let’s face it, it’s not sexy or flirty to have sweat dripping down your legs.

I really dislike the phrase horses sweat, men perspire, and ladies glow.  By this definition I’m a horse.  What a way to give a girl a complex.  But you know, I’m over it.  This is just the way I am.  And I guess honestly, I’m grateful for that as well.
