I’m on a Wildflower Mission

April 10: It’s wildflower season in Southern California and I’m determined not to miss it.  The amount of rain determines the abundance, even the existence, of the season.  Years of drought followed by an unusually wet winter make this year a special treat.  The news reports the best display of wildflowers in years.

But timing is everything.  Too early and nothing is blooming, too late and the flowers have gone by.  The best locations require a bit of a drive.  I’ve been watching the season go by, living vicariously through breathtaking photos on the news and taken by friends, looking at my calendar and thinking sadly that the season is passing too quickly.  But the universe has gratefully smiled on me.  The season is still in full swing and this week my calendar is free.

This morning was a warm up for flower trips planned this week – a hike through forests of wild mustard flowers at a nearby park.

I’m so excited, like school girl excited, that this has worked out.

Yeh! This makes me so happy reading that you had the opportunity to take in this beautiful sight filling your eyes & soul with beauty. I am also happy for California and its display of happiness bursting forth from the nourishing rains…
