April 6: My house is 50% windows. That might be a slight exaggeration, it might be 40%. I live in an Eichler home, a style of home built in the early 60’s and named after the real estate developer, Joseph Eichler. The homes are mid-century modern, famous for many features, including glass walls. From my office at the front of the house I can see the back fence of my backyard. It’s pretty cool. It’s like living outdoors only with all the creature comforts. That is until you have to wash the windows.
In the early years of home ownership I washed the windows myself. But it was hard, all the reaching and squatting to clean windows way bigger than me.
Thankfully there is someone with a window washing business who grew up in an Eichler. In fact he started his business filling a need he no doubt experienced himself, someone to wash all these darn windows. I am ever so grateful for his services. He was here today and now my windows are sparkly and clean and all ready for a houseful of guests to look through (and hopefully not walk through) on Saturday.
