March 22: I’m grateful to have found a way to make my four wooden adirondack chairs last another year or two. I love these bright orange chairs because they’re comfortable, their arms are perfect for resting a glass of wine or water on, and the color is super cheery. But they’ve been sitting outdoors uncovered for several years now and the weather has not been kind to them. An upcoming event, like the party we’re having here in a few weeks, makes the deterioration suddenly noticeable. Its like the brain just hones in and doesn’t let go until the issue at hand is dealt with. Should we buy new chairs, should we have the chairs refinished, will anyone even sit in the atrium, will anyone even notice the peeling paint? Turns out a little sandpaper and touch up with some almost matching orange paint makes all the difference in the world. Throw on some fresh new colorful cushions and they’ll look like new. Better than a total refinish and much less expensive than purchasing new chairs. And it saves me from being embarrassed. A big thank you to my husband for suggesting the idea.
