February 14th: I’m grateful for a husband who, after 30 years of marriage, still remembers me on Valentine’s Day. For the last 10 years he’s surprised me with pajamas from Victoria’s Secret. I know lingerie is more romantic, but I love pajamas.
My first and favorite pair of pajama bottoms are light pink with white hearts and a little ruffle on the leg. Something about them just makes me smile. I was heartbroken when they went missing, retracing my steps in my head trying to track them down, certain I had left them hanging on the back of a bathroom door at a hotel we stayed at after our first Mumford & Sons concert. I wistfully mourned them as each Valentine’s reminded me of their loss. Then one day last year my pajama drawer jammed. I reached behind the drawer and found a wad of clothes and much to my surprise and delight, my heart pajamas.
The first in what becomes a tradition is often the best and most treasured. It is when an idea first pops into the mind of the giver, often spontaneous, unrehearsed, maybe even uncensored; and for the recipient totally unexpected. And according to my husband, the first year really was the best because the selection of cute pajamas has just not been the same since then.
I am grateful for my heart pajamas and all those that followed because they remind me of my husband’s thoughtfulness.
