February 2nd: Don’t laugh, but I’ve been studying numerology. It’s part of a self-directed initiative to expand my horizons and it’s the information in this course that I’m actually thankful for today.
Numbers 1-9 each have personality types associated with them making numerology not much different than the personality types defined by Carl Jung and used by Myers & Briggs. Many of us have taken the Myers-Briggs test to evaluate the types of jobs we might be best suited for or as a condition for employment. The difference is that in numerology, each of us are divinely assigned a unique set of numbers and these numbers are revealed to us through our birth name and date.
I’m a curious sort, so I’ll explore anything — a characteristic that is predestined by my numbers, by the way. What I discovered was a reflection of myself – a reflection that I recognized but could not quite put into words until I learned more about the personality traits associated with my numbers. It’s a bit unsettling if you don’t have a strong belief in the mystical. Like how can my birth name and date tell so much about me? How can I possibly see the progression of me and my life in numbers? And do I have less control over my life than I think? Not everyone will find the same sort of accuracy because just like the personality types of Carl Jung, you have to live authentically. Fear, guilt, unworthiness, and other negative forces can prevent you from reaching your innate potential, prevent you from even seeing yourself in that potential.
Today, while catching up on my course work, I realized that numbers that accurately describe who I am and where I’ve come from can also help me plot the path ahead. There’s an extra ounce of courage that comes from knowing that certain characteristics, such as leadership or being a change agent, are an innate part of who I am and are just dying to be used given the chance. The universe may even conspire to put those characteristics in my path (synchronicity) so that I will use them.
While I believe strongly in the power of the individual I recognize there is something larger at work and that it’s the symbiotic relationship of the two that dictate the course of one’s life. And really, what’s the harm in it. Anything that gives you a little boost to realize your potential is a good thing. So while it’s a little out of the box for me, I’m actually grateful for the information I’ve learned in this course.
